Enjoy the chapter! xoxo

The next two days went by uneventfully and peacefully.

They easily settled into their new daily beach life routine. Early morning jogging with a steady run, swimming after grilling out for lunch, and then going for a leisurely walk in the afternoon before watching the sunset in each other’s arms on the beach at night time.

It was magical and all very comfortably romantic.

The next day was when it finally came the time for them to leave and go home.

You XiaoMo, of course, was devastated in his own way. Continually sending their ocean cove home a forlorn glance.

Ling Xiao suddenly hugged his shoulders tightly from behind, “Lady, don’t be sad. We’ll come back soon, maybe in a few months or after the baby is born. Wouldn’t you love to watch him swim with us?”

Despite his melancholy mood, You XiaoMo couldn’t help but smile brightly at the imagery those words evoked, hugging the arms around him back. He nodded enthusiastically, “Yeah, I would.”

“It’s not goodbye, it’s see you soon.” Ling Xiao faintly said as they watched their cabin home shrink back to original miniature size.

Seven hours later saw the refreshed couple back at their palace home.

Ling Xiao opened the extravagantly grand door with You XiaoMo in tow.

At the same time, two of You XiaoMo’s contract wicked beasts had confidently noticed their entrance. They immediately stood up and greeted them properly before their faces were etched with slight surprise. Their master who was barely showing his pregnancy before they had left, was now full on sprouting a baby bump through his light clothing.

Although the wicked beasts knew and understood of the pregnancy, seeing it was still an eye-opener for them all.

You XiaoMo squirmed under the obvious and unconcealed looks, moving to self consciously cover his body slightly behind Ling Xiao’s.

He honestly forgot this would most likely happen when others saw him. Not thinking about how it was no longer just Ling Xiao and himself on a deserted beach together. But he couldn’t blame them, because if he was honest with himself, if he saw another male pregnant he would probably be acting the same way if not even more shocked than them.

PiQui, who had XiaoJin on his shoulders, had just walked into the foyer and he saw them, yelling excitedly, “Master!”

You XiaoMo watched as his first wicked came up to him and said in an astonished tone of voice, “Master, you got a big tummy now!”

HeiQui who was near, promptly walked up and knocked him on the head, scolding him, “Idiot, he’s carrying a child.”

You XiaoMo subconsciously touched his belly, he didn’t think it was that big…. If anything, it looked like he was permanently bloated.

“Has anything happened?” Ling Xiao calmly asked and ignored the rowdiness in the room, directly talking to SheQui and LanQui who both had came over after hearing the commotion.

SheQui lazily grinned, “Nothing event wise. However, your guy’s thing lit up the continent and everyone’s talking about it. You also got a lot of mail, Fu Qiong even sent a messenger. The information has all been sent to your office in your quarters.”

Ling Xiao nodded slightly, replying back, “Then I’ll go see. Let the Tiangou know that we’ve arrived and I’ll be in by the morning for an update.”

“Yes, Boss.” SheQui easily replied and moved out of the way for them to walk by. With everyone watched as they walked down the great hall and went up the long set of stairs upwards.

Walking along their area of the palace, You XiaoMo watched Ling Xiao turn and open his office door.

The head of the Tiangou didn’t use this room too often as he normally did all his business at the Weeping Ghost Shore. They had only created this room to be a spare for him; and also, having so many unused and empty rooms felt weird to You XiaoMo, and so he quickly helped Ling Xiao put it together. Like most of the palace, the room was white; but to add a sleek charm to fit Ling Xiao’s style, they added contrasting dark and aged wooden shelves, cabinets, and furniture.

You XiaoMo softly closed the doors behind them before turning to see Ling Xiao approaching his desk. On top of it was piles of different material jade-drives and beautifully sealed paper scrolls. He went around beside him to eagerly ask, “What is it?”

Breaking the wax seals and opening the scrolls, Ling Xiao’s eyes quickly glanced at the words before moving along to the next. Hearing his wife’s question, he smiled faintly at his him, his hand still moving to open the scrolls, “They seem to be congratulations letters.”

You XiaoMo’s eyebrows went up in surprise. He hadn’t expected such an outpour in support like this.

After Ling Xiao’s hands had shuffled through about twenty of these, his attention was caught by an elaborate and small stone box. Opening it, Ling Xiao picked up the small black jade-drive that was neatly tucked inside and looking as if precious cargo. Within a second of reading the initial information into his mind, his eyebrows went up slightly before a smile faintly curled at his lips.

As You XiaoMo was also scanning and picking up some of the letters, he noticed Ling Xiao’s expression had changed from his peripheral and couldn’t help but ask, “What is it?”

“Here.” Ling Xiao didn’t answer him, but instead, smirked and picked up his wife’s hand, shoving the jade-drive into his empty small palm.

Although he felt bewildered at that mischievous smile, You XiaoMo did indeed read the jade-drive. Five seconds later his face was one of both horror and dumbfoundedness.

“He can’t be serious can he?” You XiaoMo cried in dismay, his body practically jumping out of his shoes.

“That man sounded very, very insistent.” Ling Xiao calmly replied, then shaking his head and lifting his hands in a faux helpless manner, he added with a schadenfreude smile, “I don’t think we can refuse.” Very much loving this expression his wife was displaying!

You XiaoMo spluttered a nonsensical word. Don’t think he’s too scared to be labeled rude or reject people, because he surely can!

Then with a damsel-in-distress face, You XiaoMo peered up at the tall man, pitifully whining, “But, but, that’s embarrassing…. I don’t know if….”

“My wife, it’s a party. In our name, and even better, for our baby!” Ling Xiao’s smile was brilliant and dashing, his tone holding an eloquence and melodicism.

You XiaoMo wilted a little bit, and looked at him with doubt, “You did just witness how the Qui team reacted to seeing me, right? How will the mass public view me? That’s what it will be like at that banquet.”

Ling Xiao hooked his arm around You XiaoMo’s waist, pulling him in close and into his embrace, he lowered his head and spoke against his reddening ear, “Think of all the valuable and rare presents we’ll receive. You’ll thank me later.”

You XiaoMo’s embarrassment was turned into anger at his husband’s suggestion he was so easily bought. How dare the bastard!…… But then again……the more he thought about it, the more Ling Xiao was right and he could only concede and agree with an excited, “Mhmm, okay.”

The truth of the matter was that this whole ‘party’, the banquet that is, felt like the definition of a baby shower!

In the last decade, You XiaoMo’s Second Shixiong Wei Bai had recovered so nicely and completely that it made Fu Qiong, the head of the Cang Union Alliance, feel even more grateful for You XiaoMo’s services in aiding them with the transcendent level pill. In addition with Ling Xiao efforts in winning the war, of course. It made Fu Qiong want to always show their gratitude and form an even stronger bond between their two strong forces.

To show how much they appreciated their good relationship with one another and their happiness toward their good news, the Cang Union Alliance had offered to throw Ling Xiao and You XiaoMo a banquet in their honor. Mentioning this will let people come forth to bring their good wishes and express their loyalty to the expecting couple.

Some more pretty words were used but You XiaoMo knew what it clearly was. In twenty-first century terms, this was what they so called a ‘baby shower’! And although the jade-drive never said it was for the baby in direct words, it was obviously made because of this reason.

He was only consoled by the fact ‘baby showers’ weren’t really a thing here and the invitation labeled itself as celebrating them and their news. So he knew with certainty it wouldn’t be like those of overly decorated and frilly events with cooing and maternal females.

The jade drive asked for their confirmation on going ahead with the event as well requesting a guest list. All of which You XiaoMo didn’t even know where to start with right now, especially after having just got back home and all he wanted to do was relax.

Slowly putting the jade-drive back into Ling Xiao’s hands, he told him, “You can handle that then. Tell him we said yes but say that I still need time to do the rest. I’m going to go lay down, I’m still tired.”

Today was the seventeenth day of January and the tournament started on the twenty-second, so You XiaoMo only had a couple of days to settle in before they had to leave once again. Their midwife appointment was also a couple of days later during the tournament, so they were double time busy. They were lucky however, as their appointments usually ran early, and so if they really made good time then it won’t affect the competition.

You XiaoMo went straight to their bedroom and into the inner chamber, he sighed happily after taking a deep breath and smelling the comfortable and familiar scent of their home. Taking off his outer robe and letting it hit the floor, he toed off his boots before slinking into their soft bed.

Sporting his maternity tops, You XiaoMo was no longer able to wear his normal clothing without it popping out in comical fashion. Fortunately, switching over to the styles didn’t bother him as much as he thought it would. Probably because over their vacation You XiaoMo had found the soft stretching and long fabrics over his belly and changing body to be quite a comfortable feeling.

By the time Ling Xiao came into the bedroom to check in on him, You XiaoMo was laying on his side and already in a deep slumber. Although he wasn’t snoring, he had a spot of drool forming on the pillow below his supple and parted lips, making him look very peaceful in his sleep.

Ling Xiao smiled and pulled a second blanket over to cover him, leaning forward to give his head a gentle kiss. After staring at him for a second, he went over to start a fire in the fireplace, aiming to warm up their room for his sleeping wife.

The next two days passed by with You XiaoMo cleaning their quarters of the palace spotless. The layers of dust that had formed in their absence had made him feel uneasy and unable to rest until he could see their shine once more.

They had also been paid a visit by You JunQi. The man knocked on their door dramatically while demanding to see his son with persistent vigor, refusing to bulge until getting what he wanted. The grandfather-to-be also had the same expressions that You XiaoMo’s contract wicked beasts had upon seeing him. Despite this, his dad got an ear full of lectured yelling for his staring. If only You JunQi knew the disparancy of treatment that was dished out, he wouldn’t have apologized so much and spoiled his son with the presents he came with.

They were right now in a small and cozy reception room, speaking with Ling Xiao’s parents who had requested to see them. While everyone was sitting down, their postures all differed greatly from one another. In their home within the palace walls, the Lins were very relaxed and each sitting in a chair. Across the tea table with drinks and snacks was Ling Xiao was situated closely beside his wife on the sofa loveseat.

It was clear that You XiaoMo’s back was stiff as a board, very much a contrast to the others and his husband who, although looked carefree, sat proper with him. At this moment, Ling Xiao’s hand went to gently stroke his back in soothing motions. Quickly feeling the tension unwind somewhat, You XiaoMo glanced at his man before his gaze shifted to his In-Laws. He was waiting for the same reaction he’s received thus far….

Lin Ming laughed with a smile, “Oh wow! For three weeks we don’t see you and you grow in size. You’ve done well.”

You XiaoMo forced a smile and touched his belly in a self conscious manner. He supposed at least this was with was praising words, right?

Ling Xiao gave his father a reluctant glance, scolding him, “Is that how you greet people?”

“We’re just glad to have you both home. But unfortunately, I heard it won’t be long before you both will leave again tomorrow.” Lin Gu calmly spoke up, his face holding a gentle and serene smile as he poured himself a cup of fine quality tea.

Even You XiaoMo could smell the strong and fresh aroma wafting in the air, instantly making him both jealous and envious of their being able to drink it while he couldn’t.

“Yes, we’ll be leaving in the morning towards ZhongXin City.” Ling Xiao casually replied. At the same time, his arm around his wife’s back remained fixed in his unyielding position. With every now and again, when his palm would rack up the lithe back, his fingertips would tap along the tense shoulder blades, helping to remind his wife to loosen up.

Lin Gu nodded in understanding and sipped his tea, they had been told the details of their agreement on the tournament beforehand. He did however secretly had hopes that they would want to spend more time with family during this time though. But they knew their child and their daughter-in-law were always the type to do things their own way and in their own timeframe.

Lin Gu shifted his questioning gaze at You XiaoMo, asking bluntly, “How are you feeling child?”

Slightly startled at the inquiry, You XiaoMo quickly answered with an automatic answer, “I’ve been feeling fine.”

“You look less thin.” Lin Gu smiled softly at him, putting his cup down to the table.

Although the words sounded packed full of meaning, You XiaoMo knew he didn’t mean it in a bad way, and so he smilingly said, “My morning sickness has mostly subsided, and so thankfully I don’t seem to hurl anymore; well, unless triggered by something.” He crinkled his nose at the memory of all the things that had and could set him off.

At his funny facial expressions, both the Lins laughed while even Ling Xiao’s eyes shined a smile at his wife.

After a moment, Lin Gu laughed, saying, “Then let’s hope you stay away from those things then. Is your appointment this week?”

“It’s during the tournament but we’ll have time to make it.” You XiaoMo answered readily. Feeling suddenly at ease in the conversation. Maybe because it was an unsaid kindredness in Lin Gu’s eyes when speaking about pregnancy, or maybe it was the mention of the appointment and the thought of seeing their little gem that made him calmer.

Ling Xiao noticed the change in his wife, feeling first hand at the tense shoulders that finally eased up. Elated, he felt his own lips slowly start to curl in a smile with his wife’s pink aura.

Lin Gu spoke again, “I hope you don’t mind but we snuck a peek at the nursery room. It’s very grand.”

Hearing this, You XiaoMo’s eyes sparkled with pride. He was also very proud of their ‘grand’ nursery room.

However, Lin Ming sat up straighter in his seat and with his very masculine deep voice, offhandedly commented to his son, “Very grand, indeed. But Xiao-er, that child isn’t even born yet and is already spoiled. Children and babies don’t need all that stuff, people have raised infants on less. You don’t want him being a lazy second generation, you need to be careful.”

Lin Ming had seen all the shelves packed full of all different age group of toys for babies and toddlers. Glanced at the walls that held every imaginable thing a baby could ever need or want already purchased. In addition to the wardrobe that was stocked full of a clothing store, he felt it was all too dazzling. To which he knew this was his daughter-in-law’s influence, of course. That child’s needs and wants were already sorted out for the many months and even years to come after birth.

And although Lin Ming could applaud his daughter-in-law’s preparedness, most of it was unnecessary and excessive in his opinion. A waste of money and already giving the child a silver spoon to grow lazy and entitled with. Ling Xiao was given goals and told to make his own way into life, and look at how he turned out!

Upon hearing the tone and meaning his father-in-law implied, the relaxed posture that You XiaoMo had gained instantly tighten up under Ling Xiao’s hand once more.

Ling Xiao’s eyes held a hardness but in an extremely calm manner, he replied, “I don’t believe your opinion on such matters of raising children is relevant or useful. This is our first child and we’re going to raise and spoil him in our own way.”

Oi, I didn’t mean anything by it, calm down!” Lin Ming quickly retorted with a dismissive wave after seeing his son’s expression, trying to backtrack the conversation somewhat.

“Yes, Xiao-er, it makes me happy to see that you both are well prepared and have put forth a lot effort. Now all that remains is for our Young XiaoMo here to relax while the child grows.” Lin Gu said in a very eloquent and direct manner, all too used to his partner’s brash way of speaking.

Even with Papa Gu’s placating save, You XiaoMo still felt sort of slighted as he folded his hands over his stomach. He’s only bought everything the baby book suggested he’d need, as well as the things he thought would suit their child best and of course certain items of convenience for both him and Ling Xiao to use.

The two Lins would be even more shocked to see the haul he directed D’Peng to fetch once he returned from the lower-realm.

“First child?” Lin Ming repeated testingly after a moment, his smile bright as he continued, “You both plan on having more?”

Lin Gu had also caught his son’s wording, knowing Ling Xiao never was one to have a ‘slip-of-the-tongue’ and was very eloquent in speaking. He glanced at them with a questioning glance, wanting to hear more on this inquiry.

However, Ling Xiao didn’t answer them immediately and instead lowered his head to catch his wife’s gaze. After receiving a blink, he knew what his wife’s brainwaves where thinking and smoothly announced in a nonchalantly, carefree manner, “We’ve discussed it and are open to it.”

“That’s wonderful. One grandchild or two or three, we’ll be happy with however many.” Lin Ming smiled warmly at them both. Very much liking this idea!

“Agreed.” Lin Gu nodded happily, also wanting to experience many grandchildren around the home.

Seeing their reaction made You XiaoMo happy and he once again melted back against Ling Xiao’s arm. They talked briefly on other topics before Lin Ming eventually spoke up with a darkened face, “Xiao-er, I assume your wife’s contract wickeds had told you. Did you see the Kirin’s letter?”

You XiaoMo blinked in surprise at them. The Kirin? They wrote them? He never noticed that letter. But then again, he only skimmed the pile and never asked about it again, telling Ling Xiao to handle it all.

“I did. It was nothing of importance. Mostly them just wanting to reach out and save face.” Ling Xiao indifferently replied with an unhurried tone, making it sound like a boring topic to him to even think about.

“They still try to contact me every now and again trying to get ahold of you. They’ve established a new clan base, and although it’s taken them several years to finish it, they’ve finally moved in. The location of which, not even I know yet.” Lin Ming explained in his deep voice, eyes holding a mysteriousness emotion and even Lin Gu seemed to hold a serious expression.

“Wait, why would the Kirin clan contact us?” You XiaoMo asked impatiently, looking up at Ling Xiao with a confused expression.

The Kirin clan has been in reclusion for years, building their strength and keeping to themselves. Because they had a leg up in terms of losses in the war ten years ago, they’ve been baiting their time as the top dog.

Ling Xiao slowly narrowed his eyes at Lin Ming. Who told you to speak up about such topics in front of his pregnant wife? Did he not know his wife fretted about everything?

Lowering his head, Ling Xiao looked at his big-eyed and curious wife, saying words as easy as flowing water, “They probably are just still scared of retribution from me, only want to be in our good graces to avoid annihilation under my palm. Now is their opening to do so.”

“Oh..” You XiaoMo’s words trailed off as he felt that made sense and was a good enough reason. New beginnings and all, babies will bring that about air of change. That said, he didn’t think he had it in him to forgive them for how they treated his man in years past. It would be up to Ling Xiao’s opinion on whether or not You XiaoMo would ever consider it.

Lin Ming opened his mouth and was about to speak up, but was quickly shot down by Lin Gu’s hand on his arm and with a meaningful glance.

You XiaoMo, who was still in his head, didn’t notice this subtle exchange. Or else he had, then he would’ve kept asking more questions right then and there.

Having successfully calmed him down, Ling Xiao stroked the back of his wife’s head while he smoothly transferred the topic to something else that was happier.

Later that night, after both of them had finished their dinner, You XiaoMo wanted to organize his magic herb shelves in his alchemy room. Realizing he had left some array on the tables and needed to put them back in their proper place. Telling Ling Xiao that he’d be back in about twenty minutes before leaving him alone in their bedroom quarters.

Walking down the hallway lit by brilliant night pearls and embedded jewels, You XiaoMo’s mind wandered back to their earlier conversation with the In-laws.

They talked about how the Real Dragons and Black Psychic Mysterious Turtles of the Four Divine Emperor Clans, among others had sent their congratulations. The move which was a testament of their ability to unite people and their high ranking position on the continent. But You XiaoMo only thought it was nice of their acquaintances and friends to think of them.

But it did make You XiaoMo wonder about the Kirin clan and if it still held such a dark place in his man’s heart, so much so that he wouldn’t even speak up about it?

However, that didn’t sound right, as his man didn’t care what anyone thought. Ling Xiao, more so now than ever with being the Almighty Supreme, saw everyone besides family and friends as if below him and not worth his effort to care about. Even if they spoke bad about him, he would even act like hadn’t heard them, which made them even more so aggravated.

You XiaoMo figured at most, the strongest emotion shown toward a letter from his estranged clansmen would have been an icy scorn and disdain.

Suddenly, You XiaoMo felt the impulsive want to get a glance at this infamous letter. Coincidentally, his study and alchemy room was in the same corridor hall together with Ling Xiao’s palace office. So it wasn’t too much of a hot and skip to be at the heavy stone doors and making his way inside.

The place wasn’t filled with a lot but it all held a straightforward and simple purpose. To the left side sat a table with four chairs around it, while his large desk and chair were in the center of the room. Behind the desk were lined with bookshelves, shelves, and drawers that wrapped all the way to the right side wall.

You XiaoMo first went to the desk and looked around for the congratulations papers. However, he couldn’t spot them anywhere around where they were. Figuring his man must’ve stuffed them into one of his drawers, he decided to search there. But after he came up empty again, he stood stumped.

Hmm… maybe it was a the file cabinet.

Thinking this, You XiaoMo went to the right side of the room and started shuffling through the tall drawers. His pale fingers quickly brushing over and sifting through: binders, papers, scrolls, different jade items, books, and more. After a good ten minutes of persistent effort, he finally found a handful of what he was looking for.

Excited at his luck, he brought them out and spread them out on top of Ling Xiao’s desk. His round eyes fervently scanning the materials as he flipped through it all very fast, trying to find it. He had wanted to once again ask Ling Xiao earlier, but he was secretly too nervous to bring it up. And now after thinking about it, and seeing his luck at finding the papers was this quick, he decided this way was best.

However, after just having congratulated himself, You XiaoMo soon came up with a problem.

The paper from the Kirins…… was not here!

Not in a single one of these jade-drives or scrolls were from the cold hearted clan they despised.

So, where was it then? Did Ling Xiao possibly destroy it out of anger?

Not finding any other explanation for it, You XiaoMo thought that reasoning must’ve been it. But when his thinking went in his direction, he found himself even more anxious to know what was said on it and to find out if Ling Xiao was actually okay.

Now, worried for Ling Xiao, he rushed to put everything back where it belonged and in neat and tidy order before he closed Ling Xiao’s office door softly and hurried back to their bedroom. He knew his twenty minute window of time had already past and if he was any slower that Ling Xiao would show up and question why.

Not having time to sort his herbs, You XiaoMo decided to leave them out for the night and put them up tomorrow. Besides, they wouldn’t lose too much spiritual energy by time morning hit, even then, he could easily fix it with spiritual-magic water.

When You XiaoMo was already tucked in bed and laying underneath the exquisitely soft blankets and sheets, he idly watched Ling Xiao undress near the screen. Staring at his tall and slender figure, he bravely ventured to ask, “What did the scroll from the Kirins say?”

Ling Xiao put his robes and shirt on the clothing rack before he calmly turned to face him, saying, “I already said.”

“No, I mean, in more details.” You XiaoMo clarified while subconsciously stroking his little swell of belly. Even though he didn’t want to upset his man, he was curious as to what they would say. Are they bold enough to just go ‘Congratulations’ or were they thick-faced enough to actually put an apology into it.

“Why do you suddenly care so much about them?” Ling Xiao countered back indifferently, changing out of his pants with elegant and swift movements before putting on his sleeping attire.

“I don’t care. I’m only curious is all. I’m a curious creature remember.” You XiaoMo had to momentarily avert his eyes from Ling Xiao’s giant sleeping manhood to not get distracted. He only safely returned his gaze back when he felt Ling Xiao had lifted the thick covers and crawled underneath them to lay beside him.

After he was maneuvered to lay on Ling Xiao’s shoulder, You XiaoMo stared at the chiseled chin in front of him for a long while before he sat up, speaking softly, “Why are you being so difficult? Just tell me already and then I’ll get off your back and we can both go to sleep. Because if you don’t, I won’t be able to sleep at all.”

Ling Xiao sighed, and with a bored, expressionless face, he recalled with a dull and drone tone, “Congratulations, Ling Xiao and You XiaoMo on your new soon to be addition to the family. It is with great open arms that the Kirin clan…”

“Stop, stop.” You XiaoMo interrupted him as he kept going on and on, he turned around to face him more fully and rested his hands on the other’s abdomen and arm, leaning forward, he said, “What are you….You’re acting off…What is going on?”

Ling Xiao opened his mouth and was about to speak, but before he could talk, You XiaoMo quickly warned in a firm manner, “Just remember, that at the gala we said no more hiding from each other.”

“Everything I said earlier and now, is all true. I’m not hiding anything from you.” Ling Xiao sincerely said in an earnest manner as he sat up beside him, reaching out and catching You XiaoMo’s pale hand that fell from his chest.

You XiaoMo’s gaze shifted from their combined hands to look intently into his eyes for a long moment before asking with suspicion lacing his words, “The words seemed fine to me so far, and if it’s truly nothing then why did your father bring it up specifically? Is there something I’m missing? If so, get to the important parts.”

When he heard the words and took into account Ling Xiao’s subtle actions, it all started to seem more than that what it appeared to be on the surface. And so he wanted in the loop, right now!

“Look at my wife being clever.” Ling Xiao’s eyes shined with pride as he playfully praised him.

“I’m always clever, but don’t try to distract me. So, I’m right then? Hurry up and speak!” You XiaoMo’s cheeks puffed up as he flaringly spoke and nearly shouting at the end. To make his point, he sent his fingernails curling into Ling Xiao’s hands, aiming to bite into the other’s flesh.

Noticing his wife’s anger, Ling Xiao took a deep breath and seemed to choose his words carefully before admitting, “My father brought it up because his thoughts and suspicions on their reasoning for sending the letter are the same as mine.”

You XiaoMo’s neck stiffened as the anger completely left him and a nervous feeling took over. His voice trembled slightly as he spurted out a string of questions, “What suspicions? You said it was sent because they are afraid of you……Did you lie to me?”

“No, no, my wife, listen to me. I didn’t lie to you.” Ling Xiao reached out and held his face with both his hands, forcing his wording to be assertive and clear as could be, “There is just a possibility that there is an extra reason as well as that, one that I can’t rule out completely.”

You XiaoMo swallowed hard and stated in a factual manner, “And you had intended to hide it.”

“I do not have the intention to hide anything from you. I was simply waiting to bring it up once I had more proof to inform you with more certainty. My earlier speculation is better based and proven.” Ling Xiao said while unconsciously softening his voice, his thumbs gently caressing the slightly rosy cheeks. Although he knew his wife was upset, he couldn’t resist admiring the beautifully vulnerable and delicate features under his palms.

You XiaoMo, while he truly believed him, couldn’t help but look at him with sad eyes. He understood and accepted Ling Xiao’s explanation, but that didn’t mean his emotional level was up to speed just yet.

Seeing this made Ling Xiao’s heart ache, and so he leaned forward to touch his forehead against his, whispering so close their hot breaths mingled together intimately, “My dearest MoMo, do you really not believe me? I wouldn’t lie to you. This is so silly, it’s nothing.”

You XiaoMo felt his heart jump into gear and racing off at high speeds when hearing that familiar warm and tender voice. He felt mesmerized staring at the thin lips in front of his face before he softly assured back to his man, “I believe you.”

Hearing his words, Ling Xiao stroked his hair and gave him a tenderly fluttering kiss. When their lips parted, he moved back just enough to peer down at him with sparkling eyes. Not wanting this to happen again, he explained further, “I know you said to not too, but I just didn’t want you to worry if it could be avoided.”

When Ling Xiao saw You XiaoMo open his mouth to speak, he knew what he was going to say, and so it was Ling Xiao’s turn to stop him. Saying with a stern tone of voice, “Let’s get this straight. No matter what you say, I will always protect you. If that means withholding some information for a few days, then I will. You’re going to have to deal and live with it. That said, I don’t want to upset you, so I’m going to say sorry right now ahead of time. Sorry.”

At the end of his words, Ling Xiao lifted and tilted his chin up to show a dashingly evil smile with a wink. Looking every bit wicked and devilish as someone who seemed both apologetic and unapologetic as could be. Like, who can blame the devil for his devilish deeds after that charming look? You XiaoMo couldn’t, that’s for sure, not when his name was Ling Xiao and that’s his husband.

You XiaoMo smiled joyously, and then as if accepting his declaration, he nodded and asked directly, “What’s your theory then?”

Seeing him so at ease with it, Ling Xiao was secretly delighted and continued with a lightheart, “Because the world now knows of our unborn child, just like us, no one knows what he will be like. That means no one knows what possibly his powers will behold. Specifically, what Divine Emperor blood will be stimulated and at the forefront of his abilities without needing methods to awaken it.”

“That’s ridiculous! He has our DNA, of course he’ll be both of us no matter what, right?” You XiaoMo started loudly with a righteous and sure tone, but near the end of his sentence he still left it with a hanging question mark, just in case.

“Yes, that’s right. He’ll always be a part you and me, and nothing can ever change that.” Ling Xiao firmly assured his wife, still with his hand comfortingly holding his head while the other held his hand. “What they are interested in are his powers, his Wicked bloodline that passes on.”

“No one but our family knows that he’s for sure wicked though. Why are others so sure?” You XiaoMo firmly illerated and sounding slightly confused, his hand holding Ling Xiao’s subconsciously squeezing back.

Ling Xiao moved his hand to interlock their fingers together while tugging him into his lap. He shrugged nonchalantly, “Educated guess, my love. I am, after all, a full Wicked. No one but our inner circle knows of my Uncle Gu and my father’s relationship, they only know of the story of my ‘mother’ and ‘father’. Besides, the point is though, if my assumption is correct then the Kirin clan are very much interested in finding out whether our child is going to have Kirin blood in him.”

“Why do they suddenly care? They didn’t care about you.” You XiaoMo scoffed with a pouty expression, leaning heavily against him to get comfortable.

Hearing this, Ling Xiao laughed, although the smile didn’t reach his eyes as he replied, “Because Divine Emperor progeny rate is so low that the clan is no higher than thirty people after so many eons of reproduction efforts. Imagine what they will think once they suddenly hear that after a ten thousand years, the first new possible Kirin is being produced by you, it’s highly worthwhile information to look into.”

You XiaoMo listened intently to his words and tried to absorb it in, but still admittedly said, “I still don’t understand.”

Ling Xiao raised his eyebrows slightly, gently asking, “What don’t you follow?”

“So, if he’s half-human and or doesn’t use Kirin abilities at the get go, do they not care or do care? Has their keeping the bloodline pure policy suddenly changed? Also, it’s completely redundant anyway. Even if he’s talented with Kirin abilities or not, they can’t do anything ever with you around, nor will I let them.” You XiaoMo confusedly rambled on, then dropping his shoulders in defeat. Too many things in his head, his gears abruptly stalled…

Watching his face contort, Ling Xiao looked at him in pity and calmly asked, “Did your mind break?”

You XiaoMo pursed his lips and nodded back, unconsciously answering, “It did.”

Ling Xiao laughed out loud and hugged him to his chest, he rubbed his head against his hair, making it a neat mess while patiently explaining, “I do not know about any new policies. Our intel has been trying to gather new information about them, but so far we’re not coming back with much. However, we can safely assume that they are keeping to their old traditions.”

“To answer you, yes, you’re right, it’s very stupid. And even if they ever reached out to us, wanting to meet with or teach him any Kirin rites, I will refuse and make sure they never approach this palace ever again.” Ling Xiao had paused for a moment to admire his handiwork before his following words held a very ominous and serious tone to it.

Hearing him talk so assertive and with a hundred perfect certainty, You XiaoMo felt relaxed at his man’s magnetically deep and rich voice that was full of promises. Having been with Ling Xiao long enough, he knew that when he said he’d do something, that he would do it. So then, there was no need for You XiaoMo to worry about them ever getting their claws on their little baby, ever!

“I believe you in you, so I’m not worried.” You XiaoMo softly murmured against his chest, hugging him tightly back, smiling to himself when he felt Ling Xiao do the same in return.
